History at Blundell's

“Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” – George Santayana

The History Department at Blundell’s School aims to provide all pupils with a broad historical knowledge and understanding while developing subject-specific skills. We aim to foster a sense of discovery and enquiry amongst our pupils and we encourage critical analysis of all issues.

Particular care is given to creating a positive atmosphere in the department. Pupils should aspire to high standards and will be given sufficient support to achieve these. We believe that every learner can achieve success and we hope pupils will flourish in a positive, safe and welcoming learning environment.

Above all, aim to ensure that all pupils enjoy their study of the past and develop a greater understanding and appreciation of different cultures, countries, events and periods. For without understanding the past, we cannot understand the present.
