Physics at Blundell's
The whole school from years 7-9 has weekly timetabled lessons in which they are taught the three sciences separately. At the end of year 9, they have the option to study all three sciences as separate GCSE's. We currently offer both the AQA Physics GCSE and iGCSE. To find out more information about the Physics courses taught at Blundell's, please use the appropriate links on this page.
As well as being able to study Physics as a GCSE or A-level you can also join the Astronomy, K’Nex and Electronics clubs. We also run numerous external trips to events such as lectures, observatories, power stations, and an A-level trip to CERN in Geneva.
The department is particularly well resourced with technical equipment. We regularly use DataHarvest data logging apparatus, iPads with plenty of relevant and exciting apps, a range of high quality telescopes and hundreds of experimental practical set-ups which enable students to undertake investigations. The department is fully wireless networked, and ICT is regularly used as a teaching and learning resource. SMART Boards and multimedia projectors in each laboratory enable us to display physics images, video clips and animations to whole classes and bespoke Physics software such as Algodoo and Celestia are used for modelling exercises. Students are encouraged to follow our regularly updated twitter feed to keep up to date with current events and innovations!
