A high-quality computing education equips pupils to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world. Here at Blundell’s Prep we offer a curriculum that matches the needs of our pupils in an ever-changing digital world. The teaching of skills progresses clearly from one year to the next, with computational thinking strategies, as well as the essential basic computer skills, at the heart of every session. Staying safe online is certainly a key lesson which we revisit on a regular basis, whilst the use of digital technology stretches way beyond the bounds of our extremely well equipped computer room – laptops, tablets and digital cameras are used on a daily basis across all subjects in order to support our children’s learning. The jobs that many of our pupils will be doing in the future are yet to be invented – our aim is to ensure that Blundell’s Prep pupils have the necessary skills to be ready for all of the exciting challenges that lay ahead!
Pupils will learn how to use a range of age-appropriate software packages before being encouraged to choose the best option available to them to solve a particular problem. Learning how to stay safe on the Internet underpins a huge amount of the work done in Computing and other subjects, whilst weekly touch-typing lessons also help to support children’s academic studies in other areas. Coding encourages pupils of all ages at Blundell’s Prep to think in an analytical manner, realising that creating things themselves can be far more powerful than simply being a follower of somebody else’s rules. Most importantly, children will be encouraged to gain confidence, have fun and enjoy using technology responsibly to help them in all aspects of their school life and beyond.
