Welcome to Blundell's Preparatory School

Introduction

Located in Tiverton, Mid Devon, Blundell’s Preparatory School and Nursery are situated in twelve acres of beautiful countryside. The children learn in a modern, safe, indoor and outdoor learning environment, which has been completely re-developed over recent years. The School welcomes children aged three to eleven and all are taught in small, superbly equipped classes with generous staff/child ratios ensuring high levels of individual pastoral care. Our dedicated team of teachers are highly qualified and extremely motivated. They work well together and have high expectations for the children. The School is justifiably proud of its effective communication and partnership with parents, all of whom are invited to attend a variety of events including concerts, dramatic productions, sports matches and exhibitions.

Our Nursery takes children from two and a half years and from there they move through to Kindergarten and into the Pre-Prep. The Prep department accommodates the children aged seven to eleven and from here they transfer at the end of Year 6 to the Senior School. Taster sessions for children and family visits are offered prior to children joining us, ensuring a seamless transition into the school. We warmly invite you to visit us to see for yourself what Blundell’s Preparatory School has to offer.

Inspection Press Release July 2018

Blundell’s Preparatory School is delighted to report that it has fully ‘met’ the conditions of the compliance-only inspection that recently took place. In June 2018 the school was inspected by The Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI), the Government approved inspectorate responsible for the inspection of Association independent schools.

Inspectors visited the Prep School over two days and observed lessons, conducted interviews with pupils, and examined samples of their work. They held discussions with members of staff and governors, observed a sample of the extra-curricular activities that occurred during the inspection period, and attended assemblies.

Mr Andy Southgate, Head of Blundell’s Prep commented, “We were delighted with the inspection findings, which judged us to be fully compliant in all 8 parts of the Independent School Standards. In addition to rigorous checks of our systems for Welfare, Health and Safety, the inspectors also assessed the quality of education. They were very impressed with what they found and recognised the tremendous work done by the teachers and support staff to provide an exciting curriculum, innovative teaching and first class pastoral care.”
