Year 5 Residential Trip to Dartmoor Adventure Centre
Tuesday 24th May – Friday 27th May 2016
The Adventure Centre is based at Kelly College, Tavistock and it aims to provide 'excellence' in outdoor adventure and education. Offered is a wide range of opportunities including abseiling, kayaking, raft building, canoeing, high ropes, expedition skills, orienteering and many others. Most importantly, through these activities, the children develop self-confidence, self-awareness, positive self-esteem, initiative, interdependence, personal adaptability, teamwork and leadership skills, underpinned by lots of enthusiasm. Each day of challenges is followed up by productive feedback sessions building individual and teamwork skills.
Clearly safety is uppermost in all our minds when considering a course of this type. In our experience we have found The Centre’s safety policies and procedures to be excellent. The instructors are fully qualified and very sensitive, encouraging and supportive in their work with our children. Three members of our teaching staff will also be accompanying the group. The equipment used is in first rate order, a strict maintenance programme is in force to keep it in excellent condition. The safety policies and codes of practice are in line with those of the UK Advisory Committee for Activity Centres. The Adventure Centre, Kelly College is licensed with the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority – Registration No. L0129/R0554 in accordance with the Young Persons Safety Act of 1995. They are also a British Canoe Union Approved Centre.
