English School's Combined Event Championships 2018

On Sat 15th and Sun 16th September Tom Putt, Daniel Hamilton-Strong and Megan Hamilton-Strong all represented Devon at the English School’s Combined Events Championships in Bedford. Tom, battling a sore knee, finished 19th in the Inter Boys Octathlon, with PBs in the Shot and Discus. Dan, despite illness, finished 14th in the Junior Boys Pentathlon. Megan finished an excellent 3rd in the Junior Girls Pentathlon and will now go on to compete for England at the School’s International in Glasgow in November.

English School's Championships 2018

Trixie Nicholson was selected to compete for Devon in the Javelin for the 4th year running. Unfortunately, due to a date clash, she was unable to attend.

New pupils Tom Putt, Megan Hamilton-Strong and Dan Hamilton-Strong also competed in the Inter Boys Javelin, Junior Girls High Jump and Junior Boys Long Jump – a tremendous achievement.

Junior Sports Day

After a competitive afternoon where the sun eventually shone, there were some very close results in the School House and Junior Athletics on the 4th July.

I would like to thank all competitors for their excellent attitude and all staff and pupils who ensured that the afternoon ran smoothly. Thanks also to the parents who came to watch.

In the School House competition, 3 records were broken:

  • Zeb Winzer – 300m
  • Louis Hinchcliffe – Discus
  • Gus Tiernan – HJ

For their individual performances:

  • Victrix Ludorum – Lizzie Elderfield
  • Victor Ludorum – Gus Tiernan

The team competition went down to the last event and the team who won did so by just 2 points.

  • 4th – Amory
  • 3rd – Mayfield
  • 2nd – Gornhay
  • 1st – Beale

In the Year 9/10 competition, there were 4 records broken and 1 equalled.

  • GH – 4 x 100m relay
  • Katie Finchett – 300m
  • Kitty Dart – Triple Jump
  • Ahmad Daggash – LJ and 200m

For their individual performances:

  • Victrix Ludorum – Kitty Dart
  • Victor Ludorum – Ahmad Daggash

In the girls competition, the scores were tied with just 2 events to go, before GH ran out eventual winners, 143 points to 135. In the boys competition, the result was much more comprehensive. In 3rd place were OH, 2nd place FH and having won 11 out of the 13 events, the winners were Petergate.

South West School's Championships 2018

On Saturday 16th June six Blundell's athletes represented Devon at the South West Championships.

Lizzie Elderfield ran well to narrowly miss a new PB in the Junior Girls 300m.

Katie Finchett had a good performance in the Inter Girls Triple Jump.

Ahmad Daggash qualified for the final of a very fast Inter Boys 200m, finishing 7th.

Mattie Kolowska qualified for the final of the Junior Girls 75m Hurdles, finishing 4th with a superb PB of 11.97s.

Kitty Dart jumped a new PB of 5.23m to finish 2nd and gain a silver medal in the Inter Girls Long Jump.

Trixie Nicholson threw a new PB of 40.52m to finish 2nd and gain a silver medal in the Senior Girls Javelin.

Millfield Open Meeting

On Saturday 16th June our Year 9 and 10 athletes competed at an Open Meeting at Millfield. There were some good performances all round and an opportunity to get video evidence for GCSE PE.

Devon Schools Championships

On Saturday 9th June, 15 Blundellians competed at the Devon Schools Championships.

There were some excellent performances with some good PBs in a number of events.

Isobel Morrison (Minor Girls 100m), Ahmad Daggash (Inter Boys 200m) and Trixie Nicholson (Senior Girls Javelin) became County Champions, with Trixie throwing a National Entry Standard distance.

Exeter v East Devon Schools

Following the Exeter v East Devon schools match on the 18th May, the following pupils were selected to represent Exeter and East Devon at the Devon Schools on Saturday 9th June.

  • Minors – Isobel Morrison (100m, Long Jump); James Clarkson (800m)
  • Juniors – Freddie Mercer (800m); Anna Maunder (800m); Mattie Kolowska (75m Hurdles; LJ)
  • Inters – Mia Butterfield (Discus); Mariia Karpova (HJ); Ellie Sproul (800m); Katie Finchett (300m; TJ); Megan Benson (200m); Kitty Dart (100m; LJ); James Elderfield (Hurdles); Toby Peyton-Jones (Hurdles); Ahmad Daggash (100m; 200m)
  • Seniors – Trixie Nicholson (Javelin)

Track and Field Cup – Regional Final

At the regional final of the Track and Field Cup on 5th June the Inter Girls and Junior Boys both finished 5th – a great achievement.

Notable point scores in the Junior Boys came from Louis Hinchcliffe and James Clarkson and in the Inter Girls from Kitty Dart, Katie Finchett and Ellie Sproul.

Notable point scores for the Inters came from Trixie Nicholson (54 points), Millie Attwell (43 points) and Roza Matuszkyk (37 points)

11 Schools Meeting – Millfield

Saturday 19th May saw as back at Millfield. There was finally some good weather at this meeting after several years of rain. Stand out performers were Kitty Dart, Ahmad Daggash and Toby Peyton-Jones, who helped the girls finish 3rd and the boys 5th.

Prep School Competition – Blundell's

Friday 18th May saw us host our Annual Prep Schools Competition. Pupils from Mount Kelly, Maynard, Exeter Cathedral, St Peter's, Stover and Blundell's competed in age groups from Mini (Year 3) up to Open (Year 8). There were some excellent individual performances with 7 records being broken during the afternoon including Kezia Holman in the 300m and Lizzie Elderfield in the 200m. In addition, there were wins for Blundell’s from Isobel Morrison (100m and LJ), Girls’ Relay team, Gus Tiernan (Hurdles and High Jump), Ben Fitzherbert (800m), Zeb Winzer (300m), Archie Guiness (1500m), James List (Discus) and Max Brodie (Long Jump). This helped to secure the Combined Open Trophy.

Prep School Competition

Open Meeting v Taunton, King's Taunton, King's Bruton

Saturday 12th May saw us attend an open meeting at Castle Track, with all age groups represented in the sunshine. Many pupils tried new events and a large number also helped officiate on Long Jump and Triple Jump, as well as moving hurdles, which we are extremely grateful for.

Senior Sports Day

Friday 11th May saw a rather cold and wet Senior Sports Day, but in true Blundellian style the athletes just carried on!

1 record was broken:

Bonnie Price – Girls' TJ (10.50m)

The Victor Ludorum was extremely close, with Luke Simpson pushing the eventual winner extremely close. However, this year the winner is Oscar Kolowski.

The Victrix Ludorum is Trixie Nicholson.

Track and Field Cup

With the ESAA Track and Field Cup Devon Round coming early in the term and on the back of some poor weather, many athletes got a taste of new events in this team competition. The Junior Girls and Inter Boys both finished 4th, with notable points contributions from Lizzie Elderfield, Isobel Morrison, Ahmad Daggash, Leo Dummett, Toby Peyton-Jones and James Elderfield. The Inter Girls were pipped to 1st place by just 16 points, with high scores coming from Kitty Dart, Katie Finchett, Mattie Kolowska and Megan Benson. The Junior Boys team finished in 1st place, as County Champions. All performed well, with significant contributions from Gus Tiernan, James Clarkson and Louis Hinchcliffe.

Lutra Shield

18 senior boys went to Yeovil to compete in the U20 Lutra Shield. All competed to a high standard, often in new events!, and the support for each other was excellent. Special mention to Freddie Mercer, James Elderfield, Leo Dummett, Toby Peyton-Jones and Ahmad Daggash who were competing against boys 4 and 5 years older than them. As a team we finished 4th overall which was very positive.

Castle Track

A busy first athletics day at Taunton, in rather unusual warmth.

With 6 schools competing and us organising and hosting all the Blundell's athletes had a busy afternoon. Standout performances include those from:
