Bicton NSEA qualifier 5th February 2017
A great showing in the 80cm, with 2nd place qualification to Championships for the team of Rachel Brown, Scarlett Vaux, Jodie Lister, Lara Clarkson and an individual placing of 2nd for Rachel Brown. The 90 proved not to be our day with more spills than thrills reminding us all how tough this sport can be. Gutsy performances from Scarlett Vaux and a lovely clear by Rachel in the 90cm did raise team spirits to finish the day.
NSEA Arena Eventing Qualifier 21st January 2017
Blundell's fielded teams in every Class, with many great clear rounds in the lower levels, just missing the optimum time. However as the technicality increased, Blundell's upped their game.
In the 90cm both team placed, with Tabitha Pring 7th individual.
Polly Muirhead dominated the biggest class of the day with a superb round to win, and with her impressive score, plus great supporting performances against fading light from Bird Wood, Archie Hare and Hannah Kidner, the team also took the top spot and have qualified to compete at the UK Arena Finals at Hickstead in May.
Devon Air Ambulance Trust donation December 2016
Blundellians were delighted to be able to present a cheque for £500 to Richard Lappas of the Devon Air Ambulance Trust donated from the Blundell’s One Day Event 2016.
The DAAT is the Equestrian Club’s chosen charity. It provides vital support in coming to the aid of injured riders in remote areas, often inaccessible by land ambulance.
NSEA Hickstead qualifier, Pontispool 6th November 2016
Blundell’s riders stepped up to compete at Pontispool in Arena Eventing at its most challenging with water complexes, banks and ditches in the arena itself, all proving to be a significant influence on the competition outcome.
Our youngest team in the 80cm, put on a brave performance, and learned lots from this new type of competition. The more experienced team in the 80cm gained a very pleasing 4th place, with Lara Clarkson achieving 2nd and Flic Charlesworth 5th individually.
The 90cm track continued the trend of requiring a high level of expertise, with blundell’s securing a creditable 5th place overall.
In the highest class of the day, Georgia Wood produced a lovely round, but just missed qualification. Congratulations to Bird Wood who produced a near perfect score to gain equal 1st place and secure qualification to represent Blundell’s at Hickstead in 2017.
National School Equestrian Championships 21st-24th October 2016
4 teams travelled to Addington to take part in the Uk finals for Arena Eventing. On Friday, the team of Scarlett Vaux, Molly Joyner, Rachel Brown and Mattie Kolowska contested the 70cm against over 30 teams. A beautiful clear by Scarlett and a fast round by Rachel, helped the team to secure a creditable 13th place at their first UK finals. Rachel went on to produce a stunning round in the Rio themed SJ round to gain 3rd place overall. Josh Brown flew the flag for Blundell’s in the 80cm class attaining 15th place individually. On Sunday, the 90cm team met a fair amount of bad luck, however India Eaton, representing Blundell’s as per qualification rules, produced a lovely clear to secure 10th place. Josh Brown followed this up with 7th place individually in the Rio themed SJ class.
The 1m Arena Eventing fielded two Blundell’s teams. Blundell’s Blue team of India Eaton, Polly & Finn Muirhead and Georgia Wood secured an impressive 7th place, with Blundell’s Red team of Archie Hare, Zara Cameron, India Eaton and Bird Wood securing 9th place overall.
A special mention must go to Georgia Wood, who gained a near perfect style mark to help achieve 3rd place individually out of 100 riders in the team competition.
With several Blundellians experiencing the NSEA Championships for the first time it was indeed a wonderful experience for them. Huge thanks must go to the parents for their efforts in giving up their time to get the horses and riders to Buckinghamshire for a weekend of intense competition.
NSEA Championships 20th-23rd October 2016
Queen’s College Eventers Challenge 29th May 2016
On Sunday 29th May, the Blundell’s equestrian team competed at the Queen’s Arena Show Jumping competition at King’s Sedgemoor. Molly Joyner and Matilda Kolowska competed in the 70-80cm class and both rode extremely well round a challenging course. The girls also took part in the 80-90cm class, along with Alice Smith, Jenny Mettam and Bethany Mettam. The team of Matilda, Alice, Jenny and Bethany were placed 4th out of 10 teams, while Molly competed as an individual. Bethany rode a tidy clear round on The Black Watch and the pair were placed 5th individually out of 54 riders. Alice, Jenny and Bethany went on to compete in the 90-100cm class which was a busy course with spooky fences. Jenny, riding Pollyanna V, had a fast round with no faults and was placed a well-deserved 2nd as an individual out of 37 riders. All the Blundell’s riders and horses looked very smart and performed well.
Stonar Junior ISODE 14th-15th May 2016
Four riders represented Blundell's at the Junior Championships against a large entry countrywide. As always the competition was fierce from the dressage phase onwards. Seb Albery was unlucky not to be placed in the 90cm, but this was the first schools ODE for his new horse and they are a promising combination for the future. The 80cm team of Josh Brown, Rose Stanton and Freya Hadow achieved a very impressive 4th place in the 80cm. Without the luxury of a discard score they did very well indeed to secure 4th place out of 15 teams. Josh produced a double clear to secure 4th individual and Rose, at her first schools ODE with her new horse achieved a very respectable 9th individually. Congratulations to them all.

Blundell’s teams have qualified for the NSEA National finals in 90cm (2nd place team) and a team win in 1m JWS, along with 1st again in 1m SJ!
This is a wonderful achievement at a venue that attracted a significant field of competitors from all over Wales and West. The course builders provided huge tracks to ensure the best went forward to the Championships in October. All are worthy of significant praise to achieve so much at this event.
- 90 JwS Team 2nd: Didi Eaton, Georgia Wood, Alice Smith and Polly Muirhead (two qualify - beaten by Kings of Wessex), Didi and Georgia placed individually.

The team of Rachel Brown, Seb Albery & Freya Hadow represented Blundell's at the hotly contested SW qualifier held at Bicton. They produced a very good team performance, just missing qualification for Nationals.
Bicton Show Jumping 19th February 2016
Good representation from Blundell's, with Rachel Brown 2nd individual in 70cm. The 80cm saw both teams virtually inseparable with 4th and 5th and Tilly Kolowski 8th individual. In the Windsor qualifier, the team just missed qualification by one place, with Tilly securing 9th individual. Well done to all.
NSEA Dressage, Millfield Sunday 7th February 2016
Seb Albery battled against atrocious conditions to represent Blundell's at the NSEA Dressage competition hosted by Millfield, producing a good performance against the best dressage riders in the SW.
NSEA UK Championships, Addington Manor October 2015
Blundell’s are National Champions for the third year running
With teams from all over the UK and over 1900 entries; the NSEA Championships once again proved to be a highly competitive event and an incredibly exciting week for the 13 Blundellians competing.
In the Show Jumping, we held our own despite this not being a discipline that we are known for. With the 90cm team finishing on three fantastic clears and the 100cm team finishing on a total of four faults. Sadly, both teams just missed out on the placings due to their times. The 1.10m team of myself, Polly Muirhead, Didi Eaton and Georgia Wood finished on the same score as the winning team, however, due to our times we ended up finishing 6th, which we were thrilled with considering only one of us had competed at the height before!
Moving on to the Jumping with Style class (a competition in which Blundell’s has frequently campaigned over the years) we were all busy, as this year we had qualified at every height. In the 70cm, Finn Muirhead, Josh Brown and Alice Smith produced beautiful clears and the 80cm team of Polly, Finn, Alice and Rachel Brown finished just outside the top placings. The two 90cm teams also showed strong determination and huge promise for the future, with great clears from Georgia and Ed Barlow. Special mention has to go to Finn for being the highest placed Blundellian in the 70cm, 80cm and 90cm classes. However, most excitingly, both 100cm teams finished in the top ten, with the team of Ed, India, Georgia Wood and Ellie Ansell on Algy finishing ninth and then myself, Ellie on Grace, Will Smith and Polly winning the competition! This was the third consecutive year that Blundell’s have won this class, with an excitingly different team each time. Two of us were then lucky enough to qualify for the new JWS Special 1.10m class, where Ellie and I were thrilled to both be placed 8th and 2nd respectively.
As if this was not enough excitement, the success of Blundell’s across all competitions in the South West was further recognised at a presentation where we won the Regional Points League, presented to our nominated Team Captain Will Smith. Huge thanks to our team trainer Tim Cheffings for his support and encouragement in all we do.
The week was definitely one to remember and enjoyed by all, with the Blundellian team atmosphere being something that, I know, those of us in our last year at school will miss greatly.
NSEA Show Jumping Qualifier 13th Sept 2015
In spite of Blundell’s seeing themselves more as eventers than Show jumpers, a great day was still had at Bicton. Very brave performances from our youngest riders in the 70cm class secured 3rd place for the team.
In the 80cm Polly Muirhead took individual honours, and as the fences got even higher, Blundell’s dominated the remaining team qualifiers with a convincing win and 3rd place teams in the 90cm and a win for the 1m class in addition. Individual honours went to Ed Barlow who was a creditable 3rd and Georgia Wood an impressive 5th.
In the elite jumping class of 1.10m, Georgia Wood secured 7th place at their first time competing for the school at his height.
Mrs Batting admitted she has now lost count of the classes Blundell’s has qualified for at the UK Schools finals in October.
