Blundell's pupils attend National Finals of the Goldsmiths' Company Community Engagement Awards

In June a team of five pupils set off early in the morning for London to attend the National Finals of the Goldsmiths’ Company Community Engagement Awards. Following our virtual presentation to the judges at the Regional Finals in March, Blundell’s was selected as one of eight national finalists from an initial 147 schools from both the private and state sector.

The finals were held at the magnificent Goldsmiths’ Hall in London where we spent the day in rooms used to double up as Buckingham Palace in The Crown and various scenes from Bridgeton. Once initial venue amazement had subsided Bea, Isla, James, Dan, and Sophie set up our display and prepared for the presentation in front of the other finalists and an audience of around 100 guests.

The Team gave a brilliant presentation and did a fantastic job answering the judges’ questions in between each of the school presentations. It was a positive and rewarding process which really allowed our pupils to show themselves, the school and our Community Partnerships programme off at its best.

Each of the pupils has played a key role this year in making the many Community Partnerships events so successful. Between the team they have been involved with; the Christmas Fair in the Tiverton Pannier Market, the Blundell’s Garden and Hospiscare, working at and then running a fundraising BBQ for the Tiverton Adventure Playground, leading physics sessions for visiting Primary School, liaising with and hosting Tiverton High School at various events this years and leading sports events for primary Schools as well as contributing to the newly established and successful Community Action Teams.

Unfortunately, we did not win but the pupils were outstanding throughout the day and it is fantastic that the work of all Blundellians and everything they have contributed to this year’s Community Partnerships programme has been recognised at such an event.
