Devizes to Westminster

A big well done to Jack (Yr 12) and John (Yr 12), who took part in the 125-mile Devizes to Westminster International Canoe Marathon over the Easter weekend.

Unfortunately, due to the Thames River being too high, the organizers of the event shortened the race to finishing at Reading rather than at Westminster in London. This was very disappointing for the boys as they were really looking forward to doing the whole race but they applied themselves very well to maintain their efforts throughout the days of racing.

On the first day they finished in 9th place and John sustained a wrist and shoulder injury that hampered their progress on the second day. Overall, they finished 15th out of 43 of Jnr Doubles, and 13th out 37 in the schools.

It is a fantastic achievement to complete the race at the best of times, but when you also have to battle through an injury and difficult water conditions, that makes it an even more impressive accomplishment.
