The U15 boys' hockey team triumphed over Millfield in a 2-1 victory in the Independent Schools Cup earlier this term, putting them through to the next round.
Mr Cook's wise words at half time reminded the boys that we were very much in with a chance of victory. Millfield scored a good penalty corner to take the lead early in the second half, but a liquid attack up the right hand side saw Monty draw us equal. A tense final 15 minutes followed until a late break with a brilliant overhead pass by Julius for Philipp to hit a volley over the keeper in what can only be described as a "wonder" goal.
The 1st XI also had a triumph on Tuesday February 21st against Dauntsey's in the 4th Round of the National School Cup.
U13s travelled up to Nottingham for the U13 Independent Schools Hockey Cup National Finals Day. They had the daunting task of Whitgift School in the semi-final and despite a promising start we were unable to put away our chances and lost the tie. Although obviously disappointed, the boys knew there was still something to play for and re-grouped to play Bishop Vessey Grammar school in the bronze medal match. The boys were fantastic and blew Bishop Vessey away to lead 5-2 at one stage. They held off a late come back and won the tie 5-4 which placed them as the third best side in the country!
An excellent block fixture against King’s Taunton and King’s Hall saw us play 7 matches, winning 3 and losing 4. The 1st XI had a very good 6 – 1 win, but Mr Bucknell reports that the match was still very much in the balance at half-time. An excellent second half display, led by Tom and Hector up front ultimately resulted in a comfortable win with two goals from Hector, and one apiece for Ben, Archie, Jonah and Oskar. The seconds also recorded a very good win as did the U15As who matched the 1st XI’s 6 – 1 score.
The School House teams played their matches against King’s Hall with the U13A’s being pushed all the way to a very competitive 3 – 3 draw.
