Blundell’s pupil awarded scholarship to top American University.
Since joining Blundell’s in Year 10, Meg’s sporting achievements have gone from strength to strength. Meg joined us in 2018 and her talent soon became clear and flourished.
2018:
In 2018 Meg competed for England in 2018 in the Pentathlon in Glasgow and came 4th at the international meeting.
2019:
Meg competed in the English Schools Athletics in Birmingham, she cleared 1.61m in a very long high jump competition and ran in the Inter Girls relay team.
2021:
Meg has also had success in the English Schools Combined Events Championships in Bedford this September. Meg finished 4th and is currently ranked 9th in the U20 age group. (This also included ages 18+!)
As well as being an outstanding athlete Meg is also a netball player and plays for the Team Bath Academy Development Centre and has been selected for the U18 National Performance League team.
The future is bright for Meg
Since joining Blundell’s Meg has won the infamous ‘Russell’ every year and has her sights set for her final Russell in 2022.
Meg has been selected for the British Athletics youth talent programme which gives her access to sports scientists and resources, such as high-quality coaches at the English Institute of Sport at Loughborough.
Recently Meg has received a scholarship in Athletics from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
The University of Alabama at Birmingham is primarily known for its medical school and research programs, the university also offers a nationally ranked quality education in several other areas, including business, sports, and the sciences. The university is also well-regarded for its athletics programme.
Next summer, Meg will hopefully compete at the U20 England Combined Events Championships in May, if she gets enough points, she hopes to compete for Great Britain before going to America in August.
Meg said, “Blundell's has been an amazing experience for me and I have made friends for life. Blundell's has helped me develop as an athlete and prepared me mentally for both an academic career and a career in professional sport. I don't think I would have achieved what I have without Blundell's.
Mrs Candler, a teacher of Meg’s said; “Meg is the most modest of sportswomen; an immense talent who demonstrates subtle determination and good sportsmanship in all she takes part in.”
