English as an Additional Language (EAL)

We support pupils learning English as an Additional Language in fulfilling their academic potential.

English as an Additional Language (EAL) is taught by specialists, providing a range of English courses to international pupils via small-group classes. The emphasis is on building confidence with the language whilst ensuring students can successfully access all curriculum areas. When needed, additional 1:1 lessons are also arranged.

Students in the sixth-form attend IELTS lessons in preparation for university entrance. Groups are very small to ensure intensive teaching of academic language. IELTS is designed to be studied over one year, culminating in an exam, the EAL department thoroughly prepares students for this exam and organises all testing arrangements.
