Chemistry

Chemistry is involved in everything we do – from cooking our food, to cleaning our teeth, to launching a rocket into space.

At Blundell’s, we keep the teaching of Chemistry relative and, wherever possible, link it to real life situations. We want our pupils to understand the world around us and to be inspired to solve the unsolved.

We challenge pupils to push the boundaries of the syllabus and encourage a proactive approach to learning. We have a ‘can do’ attitude in our delivery and consider it vital for pupils to carry out experiments rather than simply watch them in online videos. Our schemes of work are focused around practical opportunity at every level of study. We believe pupils learn best with a hands-on approach – an ethos which is reinforced by our consistently high exam results.

Our department is well-resourced with chemicals, equipment and exam practice material, and we pride ourselves on giving pupils every chance to maximise their potential in the exam hall. We also have good relationships with Russell Group universities, who provide workshops and national competitions in which we have had great success. Most importantly, the Chemistry department is a welcoming and happy place, where pupils feel able to question their understanding and receive a positive response. There is a reason for our popularity!
