Young designers experience the subject through exciting multi material projects in Years 7-9 and at GCSE and A-Level pupils decide on their own projects giving them ultimate license to design within an area of their own personal interest. Pupils use the most up to date CAD software and an array of different CNC machines and 3D printers to realise their concept ideas. Traditional craftsmanship is however not forgotten and our extremely well equipped workshops allow pupils to work in wood, metal, plastic, composite and compliant materials. There really are no limitations to what they can achieve.
Pupils in the department regularly gain Arkwright Scholarships and have also won numerous design awards over the last 10 years. We also offer extra-curricular activities such as ‘GreenPower’ where pupils design, build and race an electric car. Pupils leave us well equipped for university with a wide variety of skills and many go on to take courses such as Product Design, Industrial Design and Technology, Architecture, Engineering, Graphic Design and Fashion. Our GCSE and A-Level results are very high and we consistently add considerable value to our pupils’ results.
