Tennis

Tennis is an all year-round sport at Blundell’s, with an extensive programme supporting pupils at of all levels and abilities.

Tennis is the main sport for girls during the Summer Term and is also popular with boys. With 30 tennis courts and an experienced and dedicated coaching team, we are able to ensure that all pupils have the opportunity to develop their tennis during the term.

Our annual fixture list has both long standing home and away fixtures, and also some new tournament and coaching style initiatives. A measure of the sport’s success is that we are able not only to offer A and B teams, but also now C team fixtures, meaning that all pupils who so wish have a chance to represent the school, and to develop their passion for the game.

While we are very proud of our ability to cater for all levels, at the top end we have seen great success for individuals and teams alike. Our U15 and U13 recently competed in the LTA National Team Tennis competition where both teams were victorious, and in addition we have many pupils who perform at the highest level of competition, supported by our outstanding coaching team. We also lead tennis tours overseas, where pupils they receive international elite coaching and represent the school at some of the most well-known national tennis venues in Europe.

During the Autumn and Spring Terms we run tennis coaching as a separate, paid-for activity; this programme currently has over 120 pupils receiving weekly lessons from the team of coaches, enabling those who wish to maintain their tennis throughout the year. Furthermore, we run a popular parent programme, with weekly match-play style sessions, as well as holiday tennis coaching camps, including the ever-popular Christmas Camp.
