Vision & Aims

We inspire pupils and staff to strive for excellence in their learning and development.

At Blundell’s we regularly refer to our aspiration of providing pupils with ‘Roots and Wings’. Roots that ensure our pupils remain grounded, with values that provide a foundation on which to build their lives, with wings of ambition and aspiration, the confidence and courage to realise their full selves.

Roots come from developing the skills that will allow pupils to become lifelong, dynamic learners. It is our desire to instil a deep love of learning in pupils which will allow them to thrive, in their working lives, in their leisure and in their relationships. Knowing how to learn is the greatest gift we can give our children. Self-knowledge is the cornerstone of a Blundell’s education. Upon this is built the awareness, the emotional intelligence and the confidence to relate positively with others. At the heart of helping pupils to become effective learners is our desire to help pupils to know and understand themselves better. We equip them with the empathy, compassion and optimism which enables them to make a meaningful difference in a wide range of settings; this is at the heart of the social conscience for which we strive.

Wings are supported by the passion for adventure and discovery that runs through everything we do. We embrace the opportunity to challenge ourselves mentally and physically and this is at the core of our communal lives. With our beautiful setting in the heart of Devon, our pupils are inspired to test themselves and to strive to live their lives to the full.
