Jamie Stewart attended a 3 day pre-season at Blundell’s with Exeter Chiefs u18 Academy squad along with 6 training sessions over the summer, he played in all of Exeter Chiefs u18 matches this summer winning 4/4 matches so far, they won all their games at Malvern RFU tournament, beating Bath, Newcastle and Sale academies without conceding any points. He was picked to start the first full u18 academy league game v Saracens last Wednesday down in Truro, Jamie played 65 minutes and Chiefs won 44/27, the first time in 7 years that they have beaten Saracens.
Jamie was invited up to Edinburgh in April to attend the Scottish u18 International 2 day training camp and again in July for the Scottish u18 training camp held at Rugby School for a 3 day residential, he is now a member of the u18 international training squad. Recently, he was put forward by Exeter Chiefs for an England Academy Player contract which will enable him to benefit from extra training and the England elite pathway coaching and mentoring going forwards. If not selected for England he is still allowed to opt to play for Scotland, if selected in the Upcoming 6 Nations u18 tournament in February 2024. Jamie attended Exeter, Loughborough and Bath university open days this summer, along with personal introductions from Director of Rugby, Tony Yapp. Jamie's Rugby CV to date has had very positive interviews with each of the University’s Directors of Rugby, and Jamie knows exactly what is required academically to get into his first choice University for 2024 .
Jamie's father said; 'There is no doubt that attending Blundell’s at 15 transformed him from being a big useful prop to a talented all round rugby player combining power and skills that have been fine-tuned with Charlie Wright at school. His coaches, Tony Yapp and Simon Johnson have encouraged him since joining, thus enabling Tony Yapp to take him to Chiefs at u16 selection as a raw talent, a combination of hard work, excellent coaching, mentoring and team performances from him at Blundell’s and Chiefs have helped get him to where he is today'.
Jack Clover was also invited over to Ireland for a week’s training with the Irish u18’s. Jack trained really well, and we will find out more in the Autumn as to whether Jack is selected for the u18 squad. Jack is also involved in the Chief’s u18's Academy squad.
